Welcome to the 2014 Copic Earth Day blog hop! Earth Day, April 22, marks the anniversary of what many consider the birth of the modern environmental movement that began in 1970. Over 40 years later, Earth Day has become a global event with over 200 million people in over 141 countries getting involved in the fight for a clean environment.
Did you know Copic markers and inks are environmentally friendly?
• Copic Various Inks are non-toxic, so there’ no worry about harmful chemicals getting into the environment.
• Because you can refill your Copic markers when needed, you never have to throw them away!
• The Copic Various Ink bottles are recycle-able.
All that refilling and recycling means less garbage in landfills and less negative impact on the environment!
In celebration of Earth Day 2014, the Copic Education Team and Design Team has come together for a hop. Visit each person’s blog to learn personal tips and tricks for refilling and caring for your markers… and possibly some pretty eye candy along the way!
Since it’s a question I am asked a lot, today I have a video for you, on how I refill my Copic markers. Caution: This is my first video attempt, so I appreciate your patience during my learning process! Nevertheless, I hope it is somewhat helpful . . .
When you’re done hopping through the list below, head on over to the Copic Blog and sign up to be entered in the Earth Week Giveaway! 5 lucky winners will each receive a 3-piece Blending Trio or Color Fusion set, one Various Ink refill, and a 5x7 sketchbook.
A little about my card above:
Inlaid die cutting seems to be making a come back – that’s the technique I used on my card for the flower background. I did a tutorial for it back in early 2008 when I was on the Spellbinders design team -- you can find the instructions here. I cut MFT’s Plentiful Petals from a Neenah Cream cardstock base and then laid flowers back into the background piece, cut from Neenah Natural White.
The darling Sunflower Sweetheart (adore her -- she reminds me of my Earth-loving youngest daughter!) was stamped with Memento Rich Cocoa ink onto Copic X-Press It Blending Card and colored with these Copic markers:
I created a straw texture on her hat, just by making a cross-hatch pattern with E30 marker. Her dress was base-colored with RV52 and pleats added with tip-to-tip coloring with RV52 and RV55. Her sunflower was cut out and popped up on Copic Foam Tape. The background sky was just hand colored with the BG0000 marker -- I love that the Blending Card gives such smooth results!
She was Out-of-the-Box Die Cut and popped up on Copic Foam Tape over the sequin-scattered background. The patterned papers were Faux Stitched across the top. I used this week’s MFT Card Sketch 172 for my card layout.
Thank so much for stopping by today … Happy Earth Day!
