Today I'm guest-hosting the color challenge over on SplitcoastStampers.com. When I saw this color combo, I knew it would be a fun one to try. So here it is: Basic Gray (dark gray), Purely Pomegranate (or Rose Red) & Soft Sky (or Bashful Blue). So come on over and play with us!
We were given this card kit at Stampin' Up Regionals and it's what first spurred the color challenge. Then a few of us thought it might be fun to challenge each other to use just the pieces in the kit and make a card (adding just a little additional pieces, if needed). So as an additional side challenge Jessica, Lori and I decided to see what we could make! Be sure to check the links above (and below!) to see what they came up with!
ETA: Card challenge samples from Beate & Jenn -- thanks for playing, girls!
Here's the kit we had to work with (click for a larger view):
So if you'd like to play along, too, make your card this week and post a link to it here. I'll let Random.org pick a winner and I'll send you a little prize! I'll close the contest this Sunday, Oct 28 at 9pm CST and post the winner.
For my card, I used PaperTrey Ink's new Snowflake Serenade -- the soft gray and blue colors just seemed to fit snowflakes to me. After stamping the sentiments in Basic Gray and snowflakes in Soft Sky, I embossed the focal image with Spellbinders' Nestabilities Standard Square shape, then matted it with a scallop of Curious Cryogen White shimmery cardstock (the larger bit of white was the only piece of cardstock I added to the kit). All the images were glittered with Copic's Spica clear glitter pen. This piece was adhered with dimensionals to the card.
I cut the Pomegranate cardstock a little smaller and embossed it with Spellbinders' Standard Rectangle. The Heidi Swapp Ghost Shape snowflakes were glittered with chunky glass glitter (Diamond Dust) and affixed to the card with Stampin' Up's silver Vintage Brads.
The pomegranate dotted ribbon from Stampin' Up finishes off the card, along with three tiny snowflakes stamped in Basic Gray on the lower left of the cardfront. This tiny snowflake is from the "Hand stamped by" sentiment from the Snowflake Serenade set!
Good luck with the challenge -- I can't wait to see what you all make!
