I think most of you know that I love making my monthly desk calendars . . . I've been sharing them for the past year now (see the 'Calendar photo album' in my blog's right sidebar). So you can imagine my excitement Monday when I read about a wonderful project A Muse Artstamps put together to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You can read all about their fundraiser on the A Muse blog here. I'm always happy to help out a good cause, so I immediately downloaded a couple of the calendars and hope to share them with you over the next few months.
I'm going to try and work ahead a little and make a 2009 calendar for a Christmas gift for my Mom, so hopefully I'll be able to share that with you as I complete each month. In addition to the monthly calendar in the A Muse downloads, there's also a perpetual calendar included and I thought this would also make a great gift for grandparents, to help them remember everyone's birthdays. I'll let you know how that project goes as well!
For my first 6" x 6" October calendar, I used Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge, turned upside down! The calendar download I used here is the square format.
I stamped Karen Lockhart's IB Witch's Hat onto an Inchie Arts White Inchie Square and colored it with Copic markers & Spica glitter pens. The Inchie Square gives great dimension, as it is approximately 1/16" thick -- hopefully you can see that in the photo below. My final step in coloring the Inchie Square was to color the edges with black Copic marker so it would blend in with the black mat. Then I stamped the Lockhart Witch's Broom onto Neenah Classic Cream cardstock and also colored with Copics. I matted the two together onto black cardstock that I cut with ProvoCraft's zig-zag Paper Shaper scissors.
I laughed to myself that this would be the perfect sentiment, so I grabbed my JustRite Small Letter Set and small Harmony Rectangle Stamper and made it . . . "If the broom & hat fit . . ." and got my chuckle for the day!
The A Muse calendar was printed onto Neenah Classic Cream cardstock and has some orange EK Success gems accenting it. The printed calendar is about 4" square but I trimmed mine to about 3-3/4" and added the ribbon (from Taylored Expressions) looped to create tabs on the lower right side.
Papers are from Little Yellow Bicycle's Frightful 8x8 tablet and brads are also from Taylored Expressions. I hope you'll consider donating to A Muse's fundraiser and trying out these calendars! Be sure to check out what my other fellow Friday challenge chicks came up with for this sketch: Beate, Cambria, Charmaine, Jenn, Lori and Mary Jo will have something to knock your socks off, I'm sure!
A few notes of interest:
- Evidently Ellen Hutson's site decided to take some time off during last weekend's sale without telling anyone. So if you experienced any problems, she's offering a make up sale date of this coming Monday, Sept. 22. If you didn't receive the 15% off your total purchase coupon code in your August In Touch newsletter, let me know and I can help you out! The discount is also good towards the Stamp of the Month packet which includes the Witch's Hat stamp I used above.
- Don't forgot to enter for your chance to win some JustRite product I'm giving away (two posts below this one), to celebrate all of you visiting here over 500,000 times! You still have until Sunday night at midnight EST to enter.
Until then, have a wonderful weekend . . . I'll be back on Monday to announce the winner of my giveaway and hopefully have another Anna Wight/Whipper Snapper creation for you!
