Gina K May Release Blog Hop 2!

Welcome to Day 2 of Gina K Designs’ May release stamp set inspiration blog hops! Our first stamp set being introduced today is:

I loosely used this week’s CPS #220 sketch that Gina K Designs is sponsoring (check the CPS blog tomorrow to see the GKD prize package you could win!):

For my June calendar topper:

The calendar page measures 8.50" x 5.50" (a half sheet of cardstock).

Tami’s beautiful oval butterfly frame stamp was colored with Bahama Blue, Rich Cocoa and Rose Bud Memento Markers directly on the stamp, then stamped onto Gina’s Ivory Pure Luxury Heavy Base Weight Cardstock. The image was die cut with Spellbinders Classic Oval Nestabilities and the edges inked with Antique Linen Distress Ink -- I love the rustic vintage feel to this stamp set!

The image was popped up with foam tape over a folded 4” white doily (it appears those sold out quickly in Gina's store, but check back -– I’m sure they’ll be in stock again soon). A butterfly was cut from the patterned paper and attached to an aqua seam binding bow.

Gina K Designs Mix It Up Monday Challenge!

Hello everyone –- Happy Memorial Day!  I am excited to bring you today's Mix It Up Monday StampTV Challenge: Use sewing on your project -- either real or faux stitching OR a sewing themed project AND a Copic balloon coloring tutorial!  The Gina K design team recently gave you a hop full of Sew Fun inspiration, which you can find HERE . . .  now we want to see what YOU create!

Here's what I came up with:

I machine stitched the balloon strings and zig-zag stitched around the die cut image.  The popcorn box was a find at Michael’s and I just covered it in a cute kid-friendly, festive & colorful patterned paper from BasicGrey’s Sweet Threads 6x6 pad!  Fruit Punch Stickles accents the top of the scalloped box.

We can't wait to see what you come up with for this challenge!  Please create and upload a NEW project for this challenge -- it can only be entered into this challenge on StampTV to be eligible for a prize.  However, you can use it for challenges outside of StampTV. If you use Gina K Designs stamps, your name will go into the prize drawing twice!

PROJECT DETAILS:

To color the balloons, I started with these pale Copic markers that match the colors in the patterned paper:

This is where you might stop coloring, but to give the balloons a more realistic look, try extending the “lines” of the balloons that are hiding behind each other.  I used the RV10 to color over the blue, orange and green balloons, where the pink balloon would be showing behind the others:

Then I used the YG01 to fill in the green balloon behind the orange one.  Next, I used these darker colors to give a little more color to the edges of the balloons:

If you look at real balloons, they will be lighter in the center where they are fullest and darker around the edges.  You can also use your Copic Colorless Blender marker to remove some color from the centers of the balloons, if you wish.

These stamp images are from Rupa Shevde’s new May 2011 release: Birthday Bash.  The Gina K design team will have a hop full of inspiration with this set tomorrow, so we hope you’ll check back for that!

To finish the gift box, I machine stitched the balloon strings then die cut the image and layered it onto a scalloped die cut, and zig-zag machine stitched around the embossed oval edge.  Next, I stamped the bear onto more of the Sweet Threads patterned paper -- I liked the fabric look & texture this gave the bear, adding a little more to the sewing theme of my project -- cut him out and placed him over the stamped and stitched image.

Gina K May Release Blog Hop 1!

Welcome to Day 1 of Gina K Designs’ May release stamp set inspiration blog hops! Our first stamp set being introduced today is:

Vogue Vases by Theresa Momber - Isn’t this a fun set?  You can design any kind of floral arrangement you’d like in the vases, or use any of the elements separately!

 

I decided to make a birthday tag card, using some of fabulous new patterned paper from the new May/June Stamp TV Kit-Vintage Chic AND the gorgeous new Gina K Designs cardstock color this month, Just Peachy – I LOVE these colors together!

I created a tag card base measuring 5.50” x 3.75” out of Gina’s Pure Luxury Heavy Base Weight Ivory Cardstock cardstock (folds at the top) and attached a strip of black & white patterned paper from the new Vintage Chic Stamp TV Kit (you can see Gina’s preview video of the kit HERE and see what she used to also color the patterned paper!). Since the Ivory cardstock and the patterned paper printed on white didn’t match, I just used my Copic E50 marker to color the white to make it match the Ivory cardstock:

You can see the original white color of the patterned paper on the right in the photo above.

The flowers were stamped in black onto the Ivory card base and then again onto Just Peachy cardstock, cut out and popped up over the original stamping. The vase was also stamped onto Just Peachy cardstock,cut out and popped up.

See those pretty swirls right above the patterned paper? That’s a great border/shelf stamp that’s included in this set!

Our second stamp set today is Border Bling by Melanie Muenchinger - This set matches Spellbinders Labels One, Four, Nine, Fourteen, Sixteen and Classic Oval Nestabilities (and a bunch more you can find, I’m sure)!

I used the tall frame on the upper right, that matches with one of my favorite Spellbinders – Labels Four:

I stamped the large bling frame with StazOn-White Opaque ink onto Gina’s Kraft cardstock. Immediately after stamping, I sprinkled Crystal Glitter onto the ink and let it dry –- hopefully you can see the pretty sparkle in this photo:

Next, I stamped the oval bling frame with Broken China Distress Ink onto patterned paper and die cut it with Classic Scalloped Oval Nestabilities. The edges of the patterned papers were distressed and machine stitched to the Ivory card base.  Scor-Tape holds the rouched aqua seam binding in place.
