My project today uses some of the new December products I haven't gotten to use (or very much!) yet: Whimsical Wishes stamp set, Pierced Star STAX Die-namics, Emmitt Alphabet and Emmitt Nunbers & Symbols Die-namics, Wild Greenery Die-namics, Blueprints 21, Peek-a-Boo Circle Windows, Stitched Fishtail Flag STAX and the new Free w/$60-Stitched Scallop Edges.
The project I have today is a Christmas cookie recipe album! Here's a little background on why I chose the project: Our little town celebrates Christmas in its historic downtown with a weekend full of festivities December 13-14. Being new to the area last year, we discovered a wonderful tradition the town has -- an annual Cookie Walk! The town solicits the school kid's (and families!) help, by asking for voluntary donations of a couple of dozen homemade cookies per child (in exchange for free tickets to some of the weekend festivities!). Then all the cookies are displayed in the town community center and people can walk through the aisles and tables full of cookies, choosing which ones they would like to purchase (by the pound!).
So when I received an email last month from Food Network that they would be doing a 12 Days of Cookies event beginning December 1, emailing a different cookie recipe from its celebrity chefs each day, I thought it would be a great way to find some new cookie recipes to prepare for this year's Cookie Walk! Naturally, I had to print them out and pretty them up, so here are the first 5 days of recipes for you!
You can find Food Network's 12 Days of Cookies recipes HERE or HERE. I just copied and pasted them into a Word document and printed them so they would fit onto a quarter sheet of white cardstock. Then I used the large pierced rectangle from Blueprints 21 to die cut the recipe and then layer it onto a piece of 4x6 cardstock. This way, they fit into photo album 4x6 page protectors, creating a recipe album! The album I used is 8" x 8" and the inserts have slots for two photos/recipes.
The first insert I created for the "cover" was made with more elements from Blueprints 21. The Emmitt Alphabet and Emmitt Nunbers & Symbols Die-namics were used to create the title, die cut from Paver Red cardstock and layered onto the Blueprints 21 die cut Jellybean Green background ... since I'm using this month's new Color Palette Challenge colors:
Here's what the recipes look like in the album:
Here's a close-up of the Cover insert: It was also stamped with the circles from Whimsical Wishes in Versamark and some Wild Greenery die cuts added in Jellybean Green, for a tone-on-tone embossed look. The awesome new Pierced Star STAX were die cut out of gold metallic cardstock, as was the half circle from Blueprints 21:
December 1st card. I gold heat embossed the cool circle swirl from the Whimsical Wishes stamp set onto the card, then topped them with Paver Red cardstock white heat embossed with the smaller circle swirl stamp from the set. The edges of the Jellybean Green background were cut with the Free w/$60-Stitched Scallop Edges:
December 2nd and 3rd's recipes in the album:
When needed on a longer recipe, it is continued on the back side of the card:
Close-up of December 3: I thought this was a wild and crazy name for a cookie, so I thought the "crazy" loopy circles and sticks (which I love!) from Whimsical Wishes would fit well here! They were gold heat embossed, to give them a bit of glitzy holiday glamour:
December 4 and 5 recipes in the album:
The lower left card in the photo above shows an additional insert for an extra-long recipe! I adhered the middle part of the recipe with Copic Double-Sided High Tack Tissue tape on the top, bottom and left side of the recipe, leaving the right side unglued. Then I die cut the last part of the recipe with the Stitched Fishtail Flag STAX and just slipped it behind the middle partially-adhered part. That part can just be pulled out to read it ... (I hope that makes sense!).
Close-up of December 4: I used the Pierced Star STAX Die-namics to sprinkle gold, Paver Red and Jellybean Green "confetti" all over the recipe. The background's gold cardstock was given stitched ends by using the long edge of the Stitched Fishtail Flag STAX:
I think I have a great start for choosing which cookies to make for this year's Cookie Walk and I'll be back throughout the rest of the cookie series, to show you the additional cards I make!
EDITED TO ADD: I plan on showing you my next 4 recipe cards next Tuesday and will include the document I made to print all 13 (a baker's dozen!) recipe cards!
