This was a chipboard wood box (about $1.99 at Michael's) that I painted with silver metallic paint. The top has Santa stamped onto shimmer white cardstock and colored with a small sponge applicator an shimmer chalks. I pounced the chalk on, to try and achieve a velvet look to Santa's coat. His beard, hat and coat trim are done with Liquid Pearls. The star is covered in clear glitter pen.
After stamping "Believe" (my favorite holiday sentiment!) below Santa, I shadowed both the sentiment and Santa with a light gray marker, then I die cut and embossed the image with Spellbinders' Nestabilities Classic Oval and matted the image in black with the Nestabilities Scalloped Oval. All were adhered to the top of the box that is trimmed with black ribbon.
Rub-ons were used for "Santa's Key" on the front of the box. Poem was computer printed onto shimmer white cardstock and cut out with a Coluzzle tag template and attached to wide satin pomegranate ribbon with silver elastic cord. The beautiful pewter Christmas key (a retired Longaberger item) was then attached and will be stored in the box.
The poem pretty well explains the key:
Please don't worry ~
If your house has no chimney,
I can still deliver your toys.
I won't ring your bell or knock on your door,
'cause I'd wake you with all of that noise.
If you'll hang this magic Santa key on your doorknob Christmas Eve,
I'll let myself in, deliver your presents,
and then I'll quietly leave!
~ Santa ~
That is such a cute idea! I love that key, too! Who makes the key? Thanks so much!

Thanks for all the info on the Spell. I never knew all that!--esp. that they would work on all die cut machines. Your sources/links are very informative and complete. I'm seriously looking at "the whole thing" now, even though I'm stumbling over the whole line of scallop punches lining the floor. Just that little bit of embossing around the edge gives projects such a professionally finished look.

Oh my gosh what a super idea, we always answer this question at Christmas & just let the kids know that Santa will let himself in because we leave the door unlocked! how safe is that?

I have to do this! Colin is always asking me how Santa gets in the house since we have no chimney or fireplace and I've been getting away with saying "It's Magic". This will make him much happier. I love your box and key.
