I apologize in advance for this long post -- I have a lot of details to share with you!
Here's my February calendar for 2009 -- I'm quite proud that I actually got it done by the first day of the month! You may recall THIS sweet cupcake February calendar I made for my girls . . . but this one will sit on MY desk! That's why I stained the Frame Your Imagination Vertical Stand brown -- to match my crafting/computer desk. This stand holds 6-inch scrapbook page protectors, that my calendar fits into.
You may ask, why so much work for "just" a calendar? It's always my intent to re-use my calendars toward the end of the year and put them into a 6-inch brag book, along with a corresponding scrap page of a special photo of my family from that month. (Pssst -- I'm only one year behind right now, LOL!). I guess I should go ahead and make that corresponding blank page now while all the supplies are out, right? I hope to find time to do that this year and share each one with you.
I discovered these great Webster's Pages Mini Calendar Journaling Cards (pictured in the lower left of
All the beautiful trims I used are also from Webster's Pages -- they come on a card with seven different coordinating trims.
I trimmed the top and bottom edges of my calendar with Fiskars' Threading Water punch and then made a scalloped mat for the calendar with Prism Spring Willow Medium textured cardstock and the scalloped punch.
I used Martha Stewart's butterfly punch to make the butterflies from the Spring Willow Medium cardstock. They are adorned with clear crystal gemstone stickers.
For the numbers on the calendar, I used JustRite Stampers' Special Occasions Font 50-point numbers on that new, tiny 1.25" wood circle stamper. This small stamper was very handy to work with the numbers. (This stamper should be available sometime around March, I think. I'll edit this post with the exact date, once I find out). Memento Rich Cocoa ink was used to stamp onto the calendar.
The stamped flowers in the middle of the "feb" letters are Karen Lockhart's Violet Cupcake, which is Ellen Hutson's stamp of the month this month! You can view her special monthly packet HERE. I stamped mine with Memento Rich Cocoa ink onto an Inchie Arts White Inchie Square and colored with these Copic markers:
I adhered the letter "e" onto the Inchie Square and sandwiched it between the "f" and "b". I really liked the added dimension this gave:
The chipboard letters I used are Maya Road Noah Alphabet. I painted them with the only pink acrylic paint I had, which was too light for my preference for this project. So I tried coloring on top of the dry acrylic paint with the darker pink (R85) Copic marker I used on the violets . . . it worked like a charm, although I'm sure this is probably not endorsed by Copic, LOL!
You'll just want to make long single strokes with your marker across the surface and try not to color over previous Copic color -- otherwise you'll experience a little splotchiness where the marker goes back over existing color (mine was covered up with glitter!). Be sure to wipe your marker tip off onto scratch paper when you are done, to remove any possible paint residue.
Once dry, I applied a frosty pink glitter on top of the letters. I love the sentiment that is printed on the bottom of this calendar, next to my "feb" -- "Wherever you go, go with all your heart". That makes me happy!
My 6-inch square calendar base is Webster's Pages Raspberry Truffle-Yummy pattern. Once the calendar was inserted into the hanging page protector, I embellished the top with more Webster's trim and cut out the pink floral from another one of the Mini Calendar Journaling Cards that says "on this day I will..." and temporarily adhered it to the side of my vertical stand:
Whew! I think that just about wraps up this month's calendar! Check back in tomorrow for another project!
