Welcome to Day Two of JustRite Stampers' Mega March Blog Hop! The project I have for you today is Copic colored and airbrushed Easter eggs, using floral stamp images from JustRite's Beautiful Blossoms and Breath of Spring sets. No, these aren't real eggs -- they are white wooden ones I found at Hobby Lobby last Easter season, so I don't know if you could still find these exact ones.
Since JustRite's stamps are unmounted and flexible rubber, I was able to use the stamp by itself (as opposed to mounted to its wood block) and wrap it around the curved surfaces of the eggs! Now, admittedly, I didn't get absolutely perfectly stamped images, but it was close enough that I could fill in a little here and there with a Copic Black Multiliner 0.3 pen (remember, these are color-safe with your Copic markers). I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink and heat set it with my heat tool:
DISCLAIMER: I happened to luck out with the combination of ink and fake egg surface here. Keep in mind you'll want to test whatever ink you use in a discrete place, first. Also, my eggs were already painted white from the manufacturer, so I stood the chance of damaging my marker tips. You'll want to test the surface of your fake eggs to be sure they won't damage your marker tips (but if you do, keep in mind Copic's tips are replaceable).
I fashioned a "handle" for my stamp, using a folded piece of tape -- this allowed me to easily ink the stamp and lift it off the ink pad and onto the egg. Next, I tried a similar masking technique you might normally be used to when dying Easter eggs -- I used a white crayon to color over the daisies, where I didn't want my Copic airbrushing to color:
I have to say this probably wasn't the best masking technique I could have used (I also tried Eclipse Masking Tape, which worked well) because it took quite a bit of time to then scrape the crayon off after I was finished airbrushing and then I was a little concerned about the waxy residue left on the egg and the possible effect it could have on my Copic marker tips, when coloring the image. But hey, those Copic marker tips are replaceable and I was in an adventurous mood, LOL!
I used Scor-Tape double-duty ... one - to act as a mask for my airbrushing on the front half of the egg (I wanted to color the other side of the egg a different color -- you can see the tape wrapped around the sides of the egg above); and two - it held my ribbon accent in place after I was done airbrushing!
Remember, you can also use your Copic Colorless Blender marker to remove airbrushed color from wherever you may not want it (photo above). Here's how the eggs look, with their color-coordinated back halves and ribbon accents:
All of the Copic colors I used on each of the eggs are listed below in the supply section.
