JustRite Stampers' 12 Weeks of Christmas blog hops continues today (and every Wednesday up to Thanksgiving!) and this is my project for this week's hop #2 -- a shaker ornament!
You can find more details about my ornament over at the JustRite Inspiration blog today (and find the list of 18 designers that also have JustRite Christmas projects for you today!), but here are the instructions on how to construct the shaker part of my ornament:
I started by die cutting with Spellbinders 2010 Heirloom Ornament die:
1 piece of patterned paper (front of ornament)
3 pieces of coordinating thick cardstock (I used a pale plum)
1 piece of chipboard (I used Essentials by Ellen Craft-A-Board, which is a soft white color)
(1) In the photo below, the patterned paper ornament on the left is already backed with the pale plum cardstock to give it more stability; the pale plum ornament on the right is the Craft-A-Board sandwiched with a piece of pale plum cardstock on each side:
You'll also need a colored image for the inside of the shaker and some ribbon to tie at the top of the ornament. Die cut a circle in the patterned paper that will allow all of your stamped image to show through the front of the ornament. I accented the front of the circle with contrasting patterned paper die cut with Spellbinders Classic & Petite Scalloped Circle Nestabilities dies.
(2) Next, turn the patterned paper over to the back and cut a piece of acetate to fit over the circle opening on the front of the ornament; adhere it in place. I used some of the clamshell packaging from my dies! After coloring my stamped image with Copic markers (I used JustRite Stampers' Whimsical Christmas), die cut the image a little larger than the opening in the front of the ornament. Then I airbrushed the background of the image with Copic B000.
(3) Adhere the die cut stamped image in place on the second/back piece of chipboard/cardstock, making sure it's positioned to be seen through the circle opening on the front ornament.
(4) Rub an embossing buddy on the inside of the acetate to prevent static cling (or brush it with a little talc) and also over the stamped image. This will help prevent the glitter from clinging to the acetate or image and help it move a little more freely. Cut thick foam tape and adhere around the backside of the shaker opening, making sure none of the glitter can get out. Don't take the protective backing off the top of the foam tape yet. Put a little bit of chunky glitter into the shaker and check to make sure you don't have too much, so that it covers the stamped image -- a little bit goes a long way! Take off the foam tape liner and position the back of the ornament over the front, pressing it into place.
Punch a hole through the top of the ornament (both the front and back) and tie with ribbon ... you're done!
