Several of you asked how the fabulous new 2011 Copic colors compare and will fill in with the existing line. The Copic team had a sneak peek of the new colors and prototypes to play with at the Summer 2010 CHA show last July, so I put together a little comparison for you. Please remember these colors, when viewed digitally, may vary from the actual colors but hopefully this will give you a little to go on. And also please bear in mind that the actual new color formulations coming from Japan may vary a little from the initial prototypes:
BG53 (Ice Mint) is lighter and less green than BG45 -- very pretty "Caribbean" color!
Remember, we said the new E81 (Ivory) and E87 (Fig) colors could appear either brown or green, depending on what you pair them with. The best description I could think of, that many of you may relate to, is Stampin' Up's Sahara Sand color. I think the new E81 is quite similar to Sahara Sand -- a lovely light beige color, that also appears greenish when paired with green palettes. E87 is really more indicative of this trait than E81, that's why I showed the YG color comparisons next to it (although it's not appearing very green on my computer monitor as I'm looking at it now, LOL!).
BG70 (Ocean Mist) is a beautiful light color (almost disappearing on my photo above, but trust me -- it's there!) -- closer to B0000 than BG0000.
The new RV's (63-Begonia, 66-Raspberry & 55-Hollyhock -- such pretty names!) tend more towards the purple scale -- really pretty and different than any of the other pinks.
The new V20 (Wisteria) and V25 (Pale Blackberry) tend more towards the BV scale, in my opinion, than just Violet -- that's why I showed them next to BV31.
YR30 (Macadamia Nut) will be a new sunny favorite of mine, I know -- nice and light, for adding warmth to backgrounds! And I've been longing for YG61 (Pale Moss) to pair with one of my favorite YG's -- 63!
As previously stated, these new colors should begin shipping to retailers shortly after Winter CHA (Jan 29 - Feb 1), around March 1st.
Also just a reminder: I've updated my Copic Info Page with changes in Certification Class status -- The Standard Certification class on January 28 in LA before CHA is now open to the public! And there is still plenty of room in the January 27 Intermediate Certification class before CHA in LA, too -- so if you plan on being in the area, why not take a fun, very informative class to learn more about your Copic markers and how to expand your skills with them! I can vouch for this fabulous class -- I had the opportunity to sit through the maiden run of it in October and learned a LOT! All you have to do is download the application and coloring page (which asks you about the basics covered in the Standard Certification) and submit!
I'll be back tomorrow with something Copic colored, I know ... I'm off to do that now! On Thursday I think we might need to start off my 4th Blogoversary of giveaways and then over the weekend I'll finally be sharing a tour of my studio ... 3 years after I moved into it, LOL! So I hope you'll check back in for all that!
Thanks for sharing this easy to understand comparison of the new colors! There's so much to learn about Copics!

Thanks for the color comparison - that helps! My
favorites are the Es', especially E23 and E81. My other
two are YR 30 and YG61. I have more trouble with reds
than anything else. I wish they would have included
a couple more reds. On the other hand, maybe it would
have confused me more! I always have trouble picking out
the right reds. An example is a red bow. And, of course,
there is always the bleeding problem. When you get a
chance would you explain what the advantage of using copic ciaos. Are they just for broader areas! I really
just don't know. You are always so helpful and again
thanks for the comparison of the new and the old.

Thanks so much for showing the new colors in comparision to the others. I do have a question and maybe you can email me privately to answer? My email is [email protected] ... my question is how to I find a certified copic instructor in my area so I may take a class to learn how to better use them? I am in Bucks County Pennsylvania! Thanks!

So sweet! There are a few of those colors that I can see will make a nice bridge for blending! Four years of blogging! Congratulations! I do look forward to seeing your studio tour as well. Thanks for all your sharing :)
