Welcome back to the My Favorite Things June Release Countdown – just 6 days left until the new products are available on June 10! Be sure to head over to the MFT Blog to see today’s full product reveals AND enter for your chance to win a $75 gift voucher on each of the 7 countdown day blog posts!
My sample today uses three of the four new products being featured today, a darling new Birdie Brown Every Day Is a Picnic and Gingham Background stamps, Every Day Is a Picnic Die-namics, along with Blueprints 16 from yesterday!
There are so many great possibilities with Blueprints 16 and today I made flap/tuck card with it:
I went out of my comfort zone and challenged myself to use a color a rarely do – purple! (I guess I better get used to it – it’s the whole school district’s color around here … for every school!) I think this combo of MFT’s Grape Jelly and Grapesicle is so pretty together!
This is kinda-sorta a one-layer card … at least for me! :) The base is made from Primitive White cardstock, cut lengthwise for a top-fold card. When I used the rounded tab piece to cut that front tuck-in flap, I brought it up 1/4-inch, die cut, then scored at the usual 5.50” from the other end. Once folded, the tab is then tucks into the slit piece which I die cut a little over 1/4-inch from the bottom of the inside of the card – you’ll get to see how the inside looks below.
First, how about a quick Copic coloring tutorial for Birdie? Here ya go (click on any photo for a larger view):
1. Stamp Every Day Is a Picnic Birdie with Black Licorice Hybrid ink onto Copic X-Press It Blending Card die cut with her coordinating Every Day Is a Picnic Die-namics. Base color skin with lightest Copic Sketch E00 and add shading with E21, for a little darker suntanned look. Create the appearance of knees
2. Add deeper shadows with E11.
3. Base color hair with YR21, then add mid-tone of E33.
4. Go back and blend with YR21, then add deeper tones of E35.
Below:
5. Base color hat and shirt with lightest V20.
6. Add mid-tone shading to hat with V22, starting on the sides and working your way toward the center:
7. Add deeper shading on the edges of the hat with V25.
8. Go back and blend the shading with lighter V20 and V22.
Below:
9. To color shirt, define pleats with mid-tone V22.
10. Go back and blend with lightest V20.
11. Deepen the shading of the pleats by adding a little more V22; add deeper shading to the top pleats and sides of top with V25. Color shoes with same V-series.
12. Color flowers and shorts with a base coat of lightest Y11.
13. Add deeper shading with Y15 and Y17, starting at the sides of the shorts, working inward and from the center of the shorts, working outward. Go back and blend with lightest Y11.
14. Add deeper shading to the sides and center of shorts and centers of flowers with Y26. Add accent dots of Copic Opaque White to centers of flowers.
Birdie was popped up on foam tape over the large circle frame element from Blueprints 16, cut from Grape Jelly cardstock. The banner pieces are also from BP16 and I used letters from Centerpieces-You Mean The World To Me to create the LIFE word (the I was made by cutting off pieces of the T, and the F was made from an E!) from Banana Split cardstock. (And apparently my straight sewing skills need some work … I’m a little rusty)! :)
The sun was stamped in Lemon Drop Hybrid ink and colored with Copic Y11 and Y15 – absolutely no bleeding whatsoever of the hybrid ink, even with all of these yellows and on a very soft/porous paper!
To finish the inside of the card, I stamped the Gingham Background with Grapesicle Hybrid ink onto Grapesicle cardstock and used fringe scissors on the sides, to give it a look of a fringed picnic blanket! Part of one of the sentiments from the Every Day Is a Picnic stamp set was stamped in Grape Jelly Hybrid ink, followed by some Hot Fudge stamped ants!
The picnic basket was stamped onto its coordinating X-Press It Blending Card die cut and colored with the Copic markers shown above. Now you can see that slot opening where the front flap tucks in … so fun!
Here’s a wider view of the inside (and my crooked sewing!):
While I had these supplies out, I whipped up a coordinating bookmark for my avid reading girls, in hopes they will continue reading over the summer (a Mom can hope, right?):
I used the Bookmark Basics stamp set and coordinating Die-namics. While the die is already sold out, the stamp set is still available on the MFT's current Retirement Sale. Be sure to check out the sale -- there are still a lot of fabulous deals to be had!
All the new products will be available for purchase on June 10th at 10pm Eastern in the MFT Boutique. During this 7-day countdown you can enter to win some HUGE prizes each day over on the MFT blog, where you will also find links to the other design team members that are sharing samples using today’s featured products!
Thanks so much for stopping by … I’ll be back late Friday night with more June release inspiration!
