Hello everyone and welcome to the StencilGirl and Inchie Arts blog hop! I'm excited to be joining my fellow Inchie Arts design team in a hop with the StencilGirl crew! What a fun combination of products in the hands of amazing artists ... It's like the two products were meant for each other!
There are SO MANY ways to use StencilGirl stencils: with paints, sprays, textured mediums, markers, tracing, pastels, inks, Gelli Plate, etc. And because Art Squares are made from a museum quality, 4 ply, archival, acid/lignin free, absorbent, matte board material, they can stand up to all kinds of layers of StencilGirl color and texture!
I put together this 9x12 mixed media canvas (all bold products are linked below in the supply section):
I used these awesome StencilGirl stencils: Tropical Floral, Starfish, Seashells, and Seahorses. They really called my name, since I have an affinity for anything tropical or associated with the sea, and StencilGirl has a wonderful variety of stencils! I also used three different shapes and sizes of Inchie Arts Art Squares: Swatch (2" x 4"), Twinchie (2"), and 3".
Here's how it came together:
I airbrushed the background of my canvas with these Copic markers: BG13, BG57, BV02, Y23:
To determine the general placement of each color, I placed the full-sized 9"x12" Tropical Floral stencil over the canvas, then removed it and airbrushed:
Next, I taped the stencil to the canvas using washi tape and used gold, silver and white embossing paste in different areas:
Once all the embossing paste was applied, I removed the stencil to let the embossing paste dry and started working on the accent Art Squares.
For the top of the canvas (shown above), I used a Swatch Art Square (2" x 4") and colored it directly with a combination of Copic BG53 on top, fading into darker BG57 on the bottom (shown below, left). Then one of the smaller Seahorses stencil was used with silver embossing paste and a bubble stencil from the Starfish stencil with white embossing paste. After the embossing paste was dry, I glued the Art Square to the canvas:
The Starfish stencil was used directly on the canvas, with silver embossing paste. Gold and white embossed bubbles were added around the starfish. For the nautilus shell I used a Twinchie Art Square (2") and covered it with gold embossing paste and let it dry. Once dry, I used the nautilus shell from the Seashells stencil with white embossing paste:
Center and bottom of the canvas:
In the lower center of the canvas I used a 3" Art Square for the conch shell. To prep the Art Square, I airbrushed Copic markers R20, Y23, E30, and E31 (shown in the left photo below). Next, I placed the Seashell stencil over the Art Square and used gold embossing paste. Once the embossing paste was dry, I went back and colored the areas around the shell with Copic BG13, then white embossing paste bubbles were added. Once the bubbles were dry, I used sparkly Turquoise Copic Atyou Spica Glitter Pen to highlight them:
The two lower Inchie Arts Twinchies use two brand new beautiful colors of Kirarina WiNK markers: Emerald and Violet!
For the lower left corner I used another Twinchie Art Square and prepped it by coloring Copic BG11 directly onto it (left photo below). Next, I placed the Tropical Floral stencil over the Twinchie and used the brand new beautiful color of Kirarina WiNK marker to trace thru the stencil where I wanted the pretty shimmery Emerald color (right in the photo below):
The Kirarina WiNK marker is opaque and has a gorgeous shimmer to it! Next, I airbrushed a little BV02 on the left corner of the Twinchie, then placed the stencil back over the Twinchie and used silver embossing paste on the "Soul" word:
For the lower right purple Twinchie Art Square, I used another pretty new color of Kirarina WiNK marker, Violet, and scribbled it onto the Twinchie (left photo below). Then I quickly rubbed the color into the Twinchie using a sponge, until the entire surface was covered (right photo below)! I inked small sections at a time and quickly blended the color before it dried. Hopefully you can see all the pretty shimmer on the Twinchie by clicking on the photo for a larger view:
Then the Tropical Floral stencil was placed over the Twinchie and silver embossing paste applied:
The Art Squares really give the canvas a wonderful dimension and as you can see, they stand up to just about whatever you want to put on them!
