Yes, folks -- August arrives on Monday, can you believe it? The summer is almost over and school will be starting soon, so that makes it time for another monthly calendar from me!
(Click on any photo for a larger view. All bold products are linked below in the supply section).
This month's calendar uses a brand new Fall Pink Ink stamp, Apple Stand #2275H. You can see all the newest Fall/Holiday stamps from Pink Ink HERE.
The calendar grid is one I made on my computer. I sized it approximately 4.50" wide x 3" tall, to fit inside the largest stitched scalloped Frame in Frame 2 dies from Taylored Expressions. The calendars are shown at left (click on the photo for a larger view), with outlines of where the die will cut. I have made the calendar available as a free download for you (without the die outlines, so you can just trim and use however you'd like), which includes August through December ... Enjoy!
You can download the calendars HERE: Download 2016_calendarsAug-Q4_SharonHarnist
For future quick finding, the download will also be included on my Download page HERE.
Now for that cool background ... Here's how it was created:
First I stamped the Apple Stand image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto X-Press It Blending Card and colored it with these Copic Sketch markers:
Next, I used a Bubbles & Dots-5 Screen Tone to cover a 6-inch piece of Bazzill Card Shoppe Robin's Egg cardstock:
IC Screen Tones from Imagination International are specially printed transparent stickers that are used for adding patterns and shading to drawings or artwork. Using IC Screen Tones can save you a lot of tedious background drawing and quickly/easily fill in whatever space you'd like -- whether it is to give texture to a drawing or create a background! The Screen Tone sheet is applied to the paper, adhesive down, then cut to shape. It can be lifted and repositioned as many times as necessary until it is made permanent by rubbing it with a burnishing tool. From clouds and trees to shades and stripes, you can easily find the pattern you need to complete your artwork. Each tone is transparent -- you can layer, mix and match to achieve the desired effect!
You can find excellent step-by-step instructions on how to apply the Screen Tones, including photos, over at the Imagination International website HERE.
Here is how I used mine:
Since the background of my colored image was still white and wouldn't be the same as the Robin's Egg blue cardstock, I matched the cardstock to Copic BG13 and colored the "sky" background:
Next, I placed my stamped image behind the Screen Tone, where it would later be adhered (so the flow of bokeh dots would match up and be the same):
Then, using a craft knife, I carefully trimmed away just the background behind the stamped images, where I wanted the sky to match the Screen Tone background:
Once I was satisfied with the Screen Tone on the background of my stamped image, I used my Teflon Bone Folder to burnish the Screen Tone in place on the stamped image, as well as the Robin's Egg blue background cardstock. Burnishing makes the adhesive more permanent.
Now instead, I could have probably just trimmed the sky portion away from the stamped image and let the Screen Tone show through from the background, but #1: I was afraid that would make the delicate "Apples" banner extra flimsy along the top string edge and make it more susceptible to tearing, and #2: It is way easier to cut the Screen Tone with a craft knife than the cardstock of the stamped image! Plus, there was the pie's steam curl to consider!
To finish, I printed the calendar page onto white cardstock, die cut August with the largest Taylored Expressions Frame in Frame 2 die, and then colored the scalloped border with Copic Y23 so it would match the colored image. The stamped image was popped up with X-Press It 1/2-inch Foam Tape:
I hope you will enjoy using the rest of this year's calendars and will share your creations with me!
