Today the Copic / Imagination International Inc. blogging and teaching teams are welcoming the amazing addition of Jennifer Dove to the traveling instructor team! Jennifer has been part of our Fine Arts team and will replace Lori Craig, teaching Copic Certification and Coloring Classes. Lori has moved into her awesome new role as Tommy Arts Brand Ambassador, launching the new Tommy Art product line for Imagination International (my project today uses these paints!). Please join us in congratulating these two wonderful women -- I know they will each flourish in their new positions!
It just so happens that today I have a Tommy Art Paint project to share with you! I used Tommy Art Chalk-Based Mineral Paint and Metallic Paint to create this tag:
Here's how I created it:
PAINT #8 Manila Tag with a base coat of Tommy Art Pearl Metallic Paint. Tommy's metallic paints are available in 5 dazzling colors (bronze, copper, gold, pearl and silver). They adhere to most surfaces without preparation and can be layered with Tommy Art colors or thinned with water for glazing effects! Note: Since the tag I used is a manila color, my tag resulted in more of a vanilla color. If the Pearl paint is applied to white paper, the result is whiter.
NEXT, I used Tommy Art Pale Blue Chalk-Based Mineral Paint to sponge color thru a Tim Holtz stencil. Tommy's Chalk colors are high-quality, rapid-dry, chalk-based mineral paints which offer superb coverage, opacity, porosity, and lightfastness and adhere to most surfaces without preparation. Therefore, you will want to clean up your brushes, work surface, stencils immediately! They are available in more than 35 colors, are suitable for a wide range of decorative styles, and come in three color ranges: pastel, neutral, and intense. I thinned the paint just a tad, with a little bit of water mixed directly in the lid and dipped my sponge applicator into the lid. (Please note the jar I'm using is a small 30ml sample size. The jars sold through Imagination International are 140ml jars and also available in a larger 750ml can).
The reason I sponged the paint was because I first tried painting the color through the stencil using a paint brush. Since I'm not accustomed to working with paint on papercrafting projects, evidently this application method allowed for paint to seep underneath the stencil and resulted in a messier look than I was going for (shown on the left in the photo below). I preferred the more controlled look achieved on the right below, with the sponge, but wanted to show both results to you, in case you may have a need for a messier version!
After working on the layout of my tag, I decided it needed an anchor in the lower right corner, so I applied paint to the large circle blob stamp from Essentials by Ellen Wonky Backdrops and stamped it into the corner. The paint worked wonderfully with the stamp!
TO CREATE THE LARGE BUTTERFLY, Tommy Art Timbrillo (a pearlized liquid medium) was mixed with Tommy Art Fuchsia Chalk-Based paint. The Timbrillo is a magical pearlized gritty substance, when mixed with Tommy paint, creates a GORGEOUS sparkly effect! The mixed paint was applied to white cardstock and allowed to dry. Once the painted paper is dry, lightly buff it with a sanding block to release all that sparkly goodness!! Next, I die cut the fuchsia paper with Concord & 9th Butterfly Card dies and popped them up on the tag using X-Press It's new 1/2-inch Foam Mounting Squares, to give the wings wonderful dimension:
The Shine sentiment is from Essentials by Ellen Hello Gorgeous stamp set. It was heat embossed onto more of the Fuchsia paper I created, with Liquid Platinum embossing powder. Two small butterflies from Concord & 9th's Butterfly Beauty stamp set were also platinum embossed on the upper left and lower right corners of the tag. You can REALLY see all the gorgeous sparkle the Fuchsia paint has in it below!
TO COMPLETE THE TAG, I wrapped white silk ribbon and silver twine around it, securing with Tim's Tiny Attacher.
I hope this Tommy Art paint papercrafting project shows you how versatile these products are on paper. I'll also have another project or two for you this month that uses Tommy Art paints in more traditional home decor painted projects, so I hope you'll check back in with me!

I enjoy making tags as much as making cards and this one is great. I haven't worked with stencils much, or paints for that matter, and the instructions and pictures make it easy to follow. Thanks!

Your tag is gorgeous! Love the pearl and all the shimmer! Totally you! :) Yes... I'm finding that different brushes are necessary for different techniques - I've been getting great results using stencils and a stiffer/shorter bristle stipple type brush. Hadn't thought about the sponge, but I'll definitely try it! You've inspired me! Thanks for your kind, sweet words, my dear friend! Love you!
