The past week has been very humbling here in my south eastern part of Texas, to see the sometimes very destructive capabilities of Mother Nature. My family and I are definately counting our blessings and extremely grateful and thankful most of our friends and family are safe. I will be reminded of this time whenever I look at this DIY Fall sign I made:
Here's how it came together:
I started with an 8" x 11" inexpensive whitewashed plain wood plaque I found at Michaels. Next, I used my computer to generate and print the words I wanted, in two different fonts (please see this post for the fonts and where to get). After positioning the words, I secured them with washi tape on the right side:
Next, I lifted up the printed words and placed X-Press It Graphite Transfer Paper under them (graphite side down, facing the plaque):
Then I traced over the words. This Transfer Paper has graphite on one side (facing the plaque) and is white on the other side, so you can also run it through your printer, printing directly on it! This would save you one extra step, but I just wasn't in the mood to try wrestling with my printer!
Here are the graphite-transferred words on the plaque:
Next, I used Tommy Art Copper Metallic Paint to trace over the "thankful" word, using the smallest paint brush from Ranger's Artist Brush set. I adore this copper color -- I think it is very elegant and is perfect for Fall projects!
Since I used a very narrow font for the "Grateful" word, I used Black Pearl Kirarina WiNK pen to trace over it. This is a soft black and has beautiful flecks of glitter in it!
The "Blessed" word was painted with Gold Metallic Tommy Art Paint. Next, I used a cardstock template I created with dies, to trace the outline of two leaves at the beginning of the "thankful" and end of the "Blessed" words:
I used the Gold Metallic paint on the Thankful leaf, and the Copper Metallic paint on the Blessed leaf (the opposite color of what the word was painted with):
To finish the sign, while the paint was still a little wet, I used a paper piercing tool/craft pick to "draw" lines in the leaves (you are actually just removing some of the paint).
And there's a simple, quick DIY Fall decor sign! Imagine creating a custom sign that has your family's name, or children's names on it! The possibilities with this Transfer Paper are endless! What would you create? :)
LOVE this, Sharon, and *I'm* so thankful you and your family are ok. ♥

Beautiful piece! So happy you weathered the storm. We live near Lake Conroe, north of Houston, and were high and dry. Our son and his wife wasn't as lucky. Their home in Cypress, TX took on 2' of water. We've all been busy gutting and drying out everything. They lost most everything in their little home. My heart is sad for all those affected. #Smithstrong, #Houstonstrong
