I hope you all have been enjoying the Color Trend Palette inspiration over in Ellen Hutson's the CLASSroom this week! Today it is mine and Carolyn Peeler's turn to provide our 2 takes on this trend!
To take out some of the color guess-work, the hard-working staff at Ellen Hutson put together this coordinating color product list for this Color Trend:

- Pigment Inks (Mama Elephant & Avery Elle): ME Rainwater, ME Buttercup, AE Strawberry, ME Piggy Bank, AE Raspberry, AE Kraft, AE Sugar Plum, AE Conch Shell & AE Papaya
- Dye Inks (Hero Arts): Aquatic, Dandelion, Strawberry, Bubble Gum, Mulled Wine & Dark Quartz
- Dye Inks (Altenew): Ocean Waves, Sunkissed, Crimson, Puffy Heart, Cosmic Berry, Rocky Shore, Coral Berry, Rouge & Paper Bag
- Copics: BG02, YR31, R35, RV17, RV19, E39, RV69, E15 & E17
- Zig Clean Color Markers: Persian Green 033, Bright Yellow 052, Light Carmine 021, Pink 025 and Oatmeal 064
- Sequins (Pretty Pink Posh): Sea Breeze, Marigold, Raspberry, Pink Peonies, Sand & Pumpkin
- Cardstock (Taylored Expressions & Bazzill): TE Sprinkles, BZ Banana Split, BZ Candy Hearts, TE Strawberry Milkshake, TE Lollipop, BZ Chocolate Malt, TE Mulled Wine & TE Pumpkin
And here are my examples, using inspiration from the above color trend palette ... I got a little carried away, LOL!!
I love this color palette and the retro vibe of some of the images. Somehow that translated into more of a clean and simple/graphic style, out of my norm. But I think that is what's great about inspiration ... you never know what direction it will take you, sometimes trying things you might not have otherwise! Here's a little more about each card:
I was first drawn to the image of black trees with pops of color with the ornaments, plus the lone stag:
I found this sweet deer in Julie's Oh Deer stamp set to work well with Brandi's Tree Farm trees. I stamped them in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and put in the pops of colored ornaments using small circle stamps from Julie's Modern Christmas stamp set, using Distress Oxide Inks. The deer was die cut with its coordinating Oh Deer die and popped up on foam tape:
The Merry Christmas sentiment is also from Modern Christmas. I colored in just the Merry letters with Distress Markers, to resemble those in the inspiration photo. The small ornament dots and tree star are from Julie's Fat Pants stamp set.

Next, ornaments are always one of my favorite holiday icons. I found the "trees" in Julie's Modern Christmas stamp set turned into pretty decent triangular ornaments, resembling those in the inspiration photo! I stamped the ornaments in Distress Oxide inks, to coordinate with the colors in the photo:
To bring out the silver accents of the inspiration photo, I stamped the bows and sentiment from Modern Christmas in Delicata Silvery Shimmer ink and tied metallic silver string through the cardstock to serve as hangers. The stamped panel was popped up with foam tape over a galvanized metallic silver cardstock base:

Lastly (and my favorite, I think!) -- a fun, woodsy tree created from cross-cuts of trees:
I found Julie's Bokeh Dots the perfect size to create a full cardfront-sized tree! I stamped the circles with Memento Rich Cocoa ink onto watercolor cardstock. The little trees, star, and Peace & Joy sentiments stamped inside the circles are from Julie's Cozy Christmas stamp set. All were stamped with Distress Oxide Inks, then embellished with Distress Markers. The Distress Markers were also used to create the watercolored circle patterns, by first drawing with them, then softening/spreading the color with a water brush. The JOY sentiment was white heat embossed and the "O" accented with R29 Copic marker to resemble the inspiration photo.
To finish the card, I cut a piece of Ellen's tan woodgrain embossed cardstock to serve as the tree trunk, then glammed up the rustic-ness with a gold glitter cardstock base! Pretty Pink Posh 4mm & 6mm Clear Droplets and sparkling clear star sequins were used to accent.

Happy weekend!
I think I have been a traditionalist, sometimes vintage/retro enthusiast for the kitsch, the sweet and warm images of childhood at Christmas..all those traditional scenes and kind greetings...but this has completely converted me to thinking about a really clean, fresh palette for Christmas cards this year. LOVE what you've done here and my favourite, for what it's worth, is those ornaments. Love the inspiration, as I adore this set and am going to give an Art Deco look...I hope. ;-)
