Now on to my ornament! To create it, I used the new Sew Cute-Ornament die set.
I die cut two of the basic ornament shape from dark teal (wedgewood) felt. Next, the center strip of the ornament was die cut from aqua (caribbean) felt. The JOY word was created using Essentials by Ellen Classic Block Alpha, die cut from the center of the strip and also from bright pink (dragon fruit) felt. How fun would it be to customize this center piece with people's names?!!
TIP: Before stitching your ornament together, assemble and glue all the front accent pieces together:
- First, using the holly and berries dies from the Sew Cute-Snowman die set, die cut holly leaves from light green (mint julep) felt and the berries from light pink (sakura or carnation) felt. Using bright pink (cranberry 604) embroidery floss, stitch the berries to the leaves onto the aqua strip using a french knot. Then stitch the leaves with light green (pistachio 369) embroidery floss.
- Use a fabric glue to secure all the accent pieces to the front felt ornament piece. After die cutting the JOY word from the center aqua strip, glue the center strip to the front side of one of the teal ornament pieces, lining up the stitching holes on the outer edges. Then glue the bright pink JOY letters into the negative JOY letter spaces on the center strip; let dry. This will make stitching your ornament a lot easier!
Finally, the ornament topper/cap was die cut from carnation pink felt and also fabric glued into place on the top ornament piece. With all of these pieces glued to the front of the ornament, you can begin stitching the front ornament to the back ornament piece using bright pink (Cyclamen Pink DMC 3804) embroidery floss. Once the ornament is stitched about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way closed, stuff the inside with cotton batting, if you have it on hand, or I just use cotton balls! Then finish stitching the ornament closed, leaving a loop of thread at the top to serve as a hanger.
"Sew" much fun to make! I know you'll enjoy making some of these sweet felt ornaments, along with felted Sew Cute Snowman!
